How does Pay Now with direct bank transfer work?

Our payment method Pay Now is a direct bank transfer that works with your online banking details. You choose your country and your bank. Login with your online banking data. The data is encrypted and sent to your bank. Some banks send an additional one-time confirmation PIN to your mobile to confirm your transaction. As soon as the transfer is successful, the virtual store receives a confirmation and immediately starts your order. How does it benefit the consumer? .

  1. Great banking coverage and reach to consumers, (almost) everyone with a bank account can pay online. It allows to pay higher amounts and in any segment as long as the bank account has sufficient funds at the time of purchase.

Payment is made directly from the user's bank account, with fast settlement and payment visibility, and none of the customer's bank details, such as user credentials or confidential log-in details, are stored by Klarna or Sofort.

Is this solution safe?

Yes. The payment service is offered by Sofort GmbH, which has been part of the Klarna Group since 2014. Since its founding in 2005, millions of customers across Europe have used Sofort as it offers the safest ways to pay. Sofort's solution is designed around customer security and data is transmitted according to encryption techniques highly accepted in the industry. According to PSD2, it is always required to apply "strong customer authentication" for the identification and authentication of payments. Sensitive personal information like this will never be stored.


What information is shared with Klarna and what does Klarna use it for?

We ask for minimal information (or it might not even be necessary at all depending on technical input or IBAN) from banks with a PSD2 API to initiate payment. For all banks that do not have a PSD2 API, we ask for the IBAN of the account to be able to process refunds, and depending on the technical integration, we may ask for the balance and currency of the account for one day to be able to initiate payment .


The transfer failed but the money came out of my bank account. When and how will I get my money back?

Please contact our customer service. They will have to collect your account data and transfer it to the corresponding team who can initiate a refund. Refunds are generally processed in 5-10 business days.


Is it a payment service?

My bank advises me not to share my password on sites other than its website. What do I do now?

It is completely safe to use this service. Some banks have been slow to recognize the fact that more payment service providers are using their technical interfaces to improve the online shopping experience. As a customer, you have the right to use these services that ask you to log in with your bank credentials. Payment initiation services can only be offered by authorized payment services. Does Klarna / Sofort have access to my account or sensitive information?

We only ask for the information necessary to be able to offer our payment services to the consumer. To carry out the transaction, we need to access your account only once and the information necessary to initiate the payment. For example, we never store login credentials or confirmation codes.


Does the merchant have access to my account or sensitive information?

Definitely not! The merchant never has access to the sensitive online banking data (such as your PIN and security code) that you enter in the encrypted payment form. The merchant does not have access to your account under any circumstances.


Why does the payment flow change from one bank to another?

We redirect consumers to their own bank payment streams on behalf of consumers and merchants to facilitate bank payments. It is the banks who decide which login methods they want to use.
